[Class 112] [Also in Group XI] Illuminating apparatus.-An electric lamp fitting for a sewing machine comprises a casing made of two moulded parts interfitting in a light-tight manner and formed with recesses for a switch and lampsocket, the lower part having a frame-like aperture for a lens slidable into position; a reflector is secured between the two parts which are fitted with ventilating holes. The two parts 13, 14, Fig. 11, are held together by rings 16, 17 and a screw 18 passing through a hole 14a into a socket 13a. The upper part 13 has ridges 25 to render the casing light-tight, the reflector 27 being provided with lugs 28 fitting notches 29 in the ridges 25 and corresponding notches 30 in the lower part. The lens 33, Fig. 4, has side flanges which slidably engage ledges 31 formed on the lower part and is held in position by a spring detent 41 secured by the screw 18. Ventilation is effected through a gap between the end of the lens and wall 38 of the lower part and apertures 39, 40 in the upper part. The fitting is secured to the machine by an arm 10, which is shaped so that its end can be secured by a screw in a recess behind the usual inspection cover near the top of the rear side of the standard.
