[Class 4] A parachute pack comprises a thin flexible portion, thinner at its centre than at its edges, adapted to be located on the wearer's back so that his movements are not so impeded as they would be by a pack of normal thickness. An upper flap 12 is stitched for part of its length to side flaps 16 to form an upper, thicker part of the pack which is arranged at the nape of the wearer's neck and contains the major part of the parachute canopy, the apex being in the thin part. The back of the pack is stiffened by four transverse resilient members 82, Fig. 3, having curved ends around which the elastics 76, for opening the flaps are passed. The flap 12 and a lower flap 8 have cones engaging eyelets in the side flaps where they are secured by locking pins 26, 36 connected to the rip cord 28. Other cones, eyelets and pins secure the intermediate portions of the side flaps and the fastenings are covered by a flap 41 secured at its edge by press fasteners. The rigging cords are tucked into loops at each edge of the pack, and the elastics 76 press the folds of the canopy against the arched base 14 of the pack. A pilot parachute similar to that described in Specification 541,606 is packed beneath the flaps. The pack is secured by harness including broad side bands 10. The transverse resilient members 82 may be connected together by vertical bars.
