Abstract

546,626. Synthetic resin compositions for de-icing aircraft &c. ADLINGTON, G. S. Dec. 20, 1940, No. 17968. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group XIII] Surfaces of aircraft and other parts to be protected from ice accretion are first coated with a solution of polymerized glycerol phthalate in acetone, applied with a brush, and then with a solution of glycol stearate in ethylene glycol in the form of a cream, to which uranium salts may be added. To form the second solution the stearate is added to the ethylene glycol after the latter has been heated to 70‹ C. The mixture is cooled to 45‹ C. and stirred at intervals until cold, to avoid frothing and air bubbles. A proportion of 4 lb. of stearate to one gallon of ethylene glycol is mentioned. The solution of glycol stearate is stated to plasticize the glycerol phthalate and act as a freezing point depressant.
