Abstract

546,136. Tooth-cleaning devices. BJURHAGEN, L. Aug. 3, 1939, No. 22591. [Class 81 (ii)] A cleansing device for the teeth, comprises a body member in the form of a curved double channel which engages the teeth and gums in both upper and lower jaws. The upper and lower channels, which are joined only at their outer edges so as to leave a space between them have cross-sections which correspond in shape and depth at different points with the profiles of the teeth. The channel shaped members, which are made of rubber or other elastic material are preferably provided on their inner surface with projections or the like. By movement of the jaws as when chewing, the teeth are cleaned and the gums massaged when the device is held in the mouth. One modification which enables all the teeth to be cleaned simultaneously is shown in Fig. 1, and sections of the channels at points II and III are shown in Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 respectively. The upper and lower channels, provided with projections 3 and holes 7 are united at 4, the resulting space 5 serving for the introduction of rinsing liquid. A connection 8, Fig. 2, for attachment to a syringe or rubber ball may be fitted to enable the liquid to be injected into the space 5 and thence through holes 7 to the teeth. Another modification, which cleans the upper and lower teeth on one side of the mouth only, may be mounted on a handle. Bristles may be mounted on the inner surface of the channels.
