Abstract

545,956. Magazine gramophones. INDUSTRIAKTIEBOLAGET LUXOR. July 18, 1941, No. 9104. Convention date, May 28,1940. [Class 40 (ii)] Relates 'to record changing mechanism for gramophones of the kind in which the record discs 5 are piled on a shoulder 4 on a central stem 3 and dropped on the turntable 2 one at a. time by the reciprocation of a member adapted to bear against the edge of the lowermost disc to push it off the shoulder 4. According to the invention, the reciprocating member which in the example shown is a lever 9 is connected to its actuating mechanism 21, 11 through a resilient coupling, spring 12, which enables the member 9 to stop when it has pushed a disc against a stop 6 on the stem 3, while the actuating mechanism 21, 11 can complete its normal full stroke, and means are provided to utilize the variable stroke of the member 9 to determine the starting position of the pick-up according to the size of the disc or the stoppage of the operation when the supply of discs is exhausted. If the lowermost disc is a large diameter one, the member 9 stops before a shoulder 13 thereon reaches a rod 14. If the disc is a small one, the shoulder 13 advances sufficiently to operate the rod 14. And if no disc is present, the shoulder 13 travels farther still and a shoulder 17 on the rod 14 operates another rod 16. The pick-up positioning device (not shown) is normally effective for the large record. When the rod 14 is operated, it carries a rod 15 with it, and this serves to set the pick-up positioning device for the small record. When the rod 16 is operated, it switches the motor off or otherwise causes the machine to stop. If the rod 15 has a limited stroke, a spring 18 is interposed between the rods 14 and 15 to enable the further movement of the rod 14 required to operate the rod 16. The part of the member 9 adapted to engage the discs is formed with a projection 22 which lifts the pile of discs slightly before a shoulder 20 on the member comes to pear on the edge of the lowermost disc. This ensures that the shoulder 20 shall not be engaged by the edge of a large disc just above the bottom disc of small diameter. The record pushed off the shoulder 4 rides down the stem 3 when the member 9 moves away on its return stroke. The pile of discs is held in horizontal position over the shoulder 4 by spring controlled levers 7, 8 bearing on the topmost disc.
