Abstract

545,839. Lead-in bushings for electrical apparatus. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A., and ADAM, H. Dec. 13, 1940, No. 17656. [Class 36] A lead-in bushing for electrical apparatus comprises a bent insulated conductor with a lower straight portion entering the casing and an upper straight portion at an angle thereto and surrounded by a weatherproof insulating shell, and a mounting member round the first portion with a flange for attachment to the casing and its upper end adjacent the bend in the conductor so shaped that the insulating shell is held at the appropriate angle. In Fig. 1, the conductor A has insulation B moulded or formed of wound and vulcanized rubber-compound tape, or of impregnated paper, or as described in Specifications 515,890, or 515,891 ; the paper may be transversely or otherwise creped, wound with each turn overlapping half the previous turn and impregnated during or after winding with varnish, liquids such as hydrocarbons or halogenated hydrocarbons, polymerizable solutions such as styrene, or gases such as nitrogen, dichlorodifluoromethane &c. The insulation may include metal condenser layers, and its lower part may have a metallized surface C around which the flanged metal mount D fits ; the mount has an inclined upper face supporting packing E<1> against which abuts a porcelain shell E slightly spaced from the conductor to receive insulating compound G inserted under pressure, a metal cap F, with packing F<1> being held by a nut F<2> screwed on the end of the conductor. In a three-phase circuit-breaker, the six bushings are arranged in two rows with their upper ends diverging ; slightly inclined facings may be provided to receive the mounts. In Fig, 3, the shell E is received within the inclined upper end of the mount D, within which cement H and packing E3 are placed; the insulation B has a shoulder forming an abutment for the shell E. Alternatively, the shell may fit round an inclined cylindrical part of the mount.
