[Class 83 (iv)] A machine for securing a sleeve 72, Fig. 5, to a stranded wire cable &c. 73 by indenting the exterior of the sleeve comprises two rotatable discs 23, 50, Figs. 1 and. 3, having their peripheries formed with grooves, into which project radial pins for making the indentations. The discs are geared together and are rotated by means of a handle 30. Each disc carries three built-up segments 60, 61, 62 containing the grooves 70 and the radial pins 64, the pins in opposing segments being staggered. At the end of each segment is a grooved abutment-plate 65 to receive the cable and to support the forward end of the sleeve. The rear end of the sleeve is supported in the forked end of a rod 90, which can slide in a guide 84. The guide can be rotated and held in different angular positions by a locking-pin 85, so that a number of rows of indentations may be impressed in succession around the periphery of the sleeve. The segments have different numbers of pins and grooves of different sizes adapted to cables of various diameters. The handle 30 contains a sliding pawl engaging ratchet teeth on the upper disc, so that the handle may be adjusted in order to bring the different segments into use.
