Abstract
545,351. Sparking plugs. STEVENS, A. H. (H. B. Motor Corporation). March 13, 1940, No. 4731. [Class 7 (iv] An annular spark-gap is formed between the conical end 12 of the central electrode and a heat-conducting block 20 preferably made of nickel or tungsten-plated steel, which otherwise closes the inner end of the plug. Spiral passages 25 tangential to the central electrode are formed in the block and serve to scour the insulator surface and surrounding space ; the block 20 may not be centrally apertured. Radiating fins 31 are formed on the casing. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the end of the central electrode is shielded from the hot gases by a cup-shaped part of the block 20.
