Abstract
544,499. Directive wireless signalling. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Nov. 22, 1940, No. 16806. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1939. [Class 40 (v)] A long radiating wire is arranged at the focus of a cylindrical parabolic reflector with changing focal radius for every half wave length distance along the wire so that the reflected radiation from the wire adds in an in-phase relationship in a plane wave front perpendicular to the direction of radiation. An antenna array is shown in end view in Fig. 1 and in section in Fig. 2. The radiating element 3 is several wave lengths long and is located at the focus of a parabolic reflector 4, which consists of alternate portions 5, 6 having radii which so differ that the difference between paths from the focus via the alternate reflecting surfaces to a common plane wave front differ by half the length of the operating wave, or odd multiples thereof.
