Abstract
544,191. Dyes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. (Du Pont de Nemours & Co., E. I.). July 24, 1940, No. 12091. [Class 2 (iii)] The blueness of the shade and the tinctorial strength of the red azo pigment, 3-nitro-4- aminotoluene - 2-naphthol, are improved by effecting the coupling under such conditions that the azo pigment, 3- nitro-4-aminoanisole # 2-naphthol, is present in the coupling medium either during the coupling or immediately thereafter, the molecular proportion of the 3-nitro-4-aminoanisole used constituting from 1 to 40 per cent of the total amount of the two diazo components. In examples, (1) a solution containing tne diazo compounds from 139 parts of 3-nitro-4-aminotoluene and 17 parts of 3-nitro-4-aminoanisole is added to an aqueous suspension of 147 parts of 2-naphthol, the mixture is stirred fcr 15 minutes and the precipitate is filtered off, washed and dried, (2.) to an alkaline solution of 150 parts of 2- naphthol is added a solution of the diazo compound from 139 parts of 3-nitro-4-aminotoluene, followed immediately by a soluticn of the diazo compound from 17 parts of 3-nitro-4- aminoanisole, the mixture is stirred for 15 minutes and the precipitate is filtered off, washed and dried.
