Abstract

543,966. Carpenters' joints. POLLAK, J. E. (Naamlooze Vennootschap Nederlandsche Fabriek Voor Betimmeringen Voorheen Geb. Reens). Jan. 17, 1940, No. 1057. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 29, 1940.] [Class 20 (ii)] Abutting edges of side wall members with a horizontal member of compartmented furniture are joined together by a single bolt, by forming a tenon 2 on the end of the horizontal member 4 and a recess on the upper edge of the lower side member 1 to receive it, the upper and lower edges of the side members being formed with an undercut interfitting recess and projection, 6 and 3, respectively, and the whole clamped together by a bolt 7 screwing into the lower side member. The horizontal member 4 is provided with a recess 8 terminating in an enlarged recess 9 to receive the securing bolt 7 and nut 10, and the side member may be provided with a screwed socket 11 to receive the bolt. The joint may be stiffened by providing recesses in the side and horizontal members to receive the edges of a back member 12 and securing these edges by means of hard wooden pins 14 driven through the edges of the rear member which enter a recess 15 provided in the edge of the horizontal member as shown in Fig. 2.
