543,923. Purifying hydrogen. POWER-GAS CORPORATION, Ltd., GRISENTHWAITE, A. T., RUTHERFORD, R. W., and RIXON, F. F. Dec. 30, 1940, No. 18209. [Class 90] [Also in Group XII] Hydrogen, produced, e.g. by the steam-iron process, and containing as impurities carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide is purified from these by (1) passing it through an absorption system fed with aqueous alkali or ammonium hydroxide or alkaline organic base capable of combining with carbon dioxide to remove carbon dioxide or both this and hydrogen sulphide, and (2) passing the used absorbent to one or more other absorbent systems to remove hydrogen sulphide by means of the alkali carbonate produced either from the hydrogen previous to the absorption of carbon dioxide or from the reducing gas used in the steam-iron process previous to its passage through the ore bed or from, both.
