Abstract

542,559. Cements; concretes ; clay compositions artificial stone ; rendering porous. WALSH, C. L., and NEWMAN, A. A. June 24, 1940, No. 10819. [Classes 22 and 70] The colloids extracted by alkalies from vegetable matters such as the fleshy growth of Agaves, aloes, sanseviera &c., are added to cement compositions, artificial stone compositions, and clay to be used in making unvitrified pottery ware. The colloids may be added in the form of alkaline solution and may be precipitated by addition of a calcium or aluminium salt. A small proportion of beeswax may be emulsified into the colloid. An artificial stone composition may be mixed with a solution obtained by dissolving in ammonia a mixture of the dry colloid, boric acid and sodium silicate. A porous product is obtained by mixing a stiff watery gel with clay, pebbles, gravel, sand &c. and submitting the mixture to baking temperature sufficient to burn out the organic matters.
