[Class 11] In means for facilitating drawing of the kind in which an object is viewed through a frame or transparent plate divided into small areas by lines, wires, threads, &c. and is copied on to drawing-paper similarly marked, the areas are rendered readily distinguishable from each other by shaping some or all of them differently from others, or by making some or all of them of different sizes, e.g. they may be formed partly by squares and partly by triangles. Hexagons, circles, or other geometrical figures may be used, and the lines may be regularly or irregularly curved or non-uniformly spaced. The frame may be supported on a two-part baseboard 4, Fig. 1, and clamped by stays 7, 13, so as to be adjustable both vertically and in inclination, or it may be adjustably supported on a standard 31, Fig. 4. The frame may have identifying letters, numerals, or coloured marks, and the threads &c. may be differently coloured. Two or more interchangeable plates having different arrangements of lines may slide into the frame. A transparent plate having a curved or irregular surface may be used for drawing grotesque figures or caricatures. Coloured sheets to serve as light-filters may be placed over the frame or plate. For reversed drawing, the plate may be in the form of a mirror, in which an object is reflected.
