Abstract

541,562. Fusible cut-outs. ELECTRIC TRANSMISSION, Ltd., and DANNENBURG, K. May 31, 1940, No. 9528. [Class 38 (i)] A cartridge fuse is fitted with a plunger 11 actuated by an explosive charge 19 on blowing of the fuse to open a switch which may control the three phases of a circuit on a fuse operating in one phase. The plunger 11 is mounted in a cylinder 10 secured between a ring 25, that supports a second fuse wire 24, and apertured plates 7, 8. An outer plate 6 has an elongated aperture 12 containing a catch formed as a double spring wire embracing the plunger 11 so as to snap into a groove 20 in the plunger and hold it in its expelled position. The charge 19 is fired by the main fuse wire 21 which may be of tungsten and is coiled to provide the requisite length and embedded in powder 26. The aperture 12 is covered by the connecting tag 5 in which is a square hole 16 fitting a square on the plunger to hold the latter against rotation while screwing an insulated striker 35, Fig. 5, on to the stem 23. The strikers 35 of three fuses 34 one in each phase may all operate on arms 36 on a common switch spindle 37 controlling a three phase switch 33. If the fuse wire 24 is duplicated, the support 25 may be notched to retain the wires in correct spacing.
