[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Angular bending; shearing; embossing.-In a machine for making interlocking members of sliding-clasp fasteners as in parent Specification the knife 15, Fig. 6, which cuts an element from the section strip 10, receives this in a recess 29 shaped to hold and transfer the element cut off to a position between the dies 191 and 38 which shape it. The strip is fed by rollers 11, Fig. 3, of which the lower is intermittently rotated by a ratchet operated from a cam on the main shaft 50. Reverse movement of the rollers is prevented by a friction brake. The strip is straightened by a spring-returned rod 130 intermittently pressed down by a lever 135 and cam 49. The knife is operated by a cam 46 and the dies 191, 38, which are adjustably carried by spring-returned slides 19, 18 by cams 47, 48. The recess 29 has an enlargement not occupied by the element 23, and a portion 34 of the die 19<SP>1</SP> is thus able to form the rounded end 36<SP>1</SP> of the element. Spring-pressed ejectors 41 release the element 23 from the die 191 when this retires and thus retain the element in the recess 29 by which it is then brought opposite an ejector 20, operated by the cam 49, and a shoot 22 as shown in Fig. 6. The knife is then returned to its lowest position and a further length of the strip is fed.
