Abstract

541,169. Carpets, floor rugs, etc.; indiarubber compositions. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. May 28, 1941, No. 6845. Convention date, Aug. 2, 1940. [Class 142 (iv)] [Also in Group V] A carpet, floor rug &c. has means forming an electrically conducting path extending from the face of the under side thereof for discharging static electricity; the means may contact with further conducting means at the underside of the carpet &c. As shown a number of cords, yarns or threads 4, treated to render them electrically conducting, are threaded through a rug, along the upper side of the backing 2 and again upwards to the face 3; a coating 5 of electrically conducting rubber composition is applied to the underside of the backing 2. Single threads knotted at their lower ends may be used in place of the cords &c. 4 or certain tufts of the fabric may be treated to render them electrically conducting. The cords &c. may be treated with a rubber composition containign rubber 100 parts zinc oxide 15, antioxidant .35 accelerator 2, deodorant 1, stearic acid 7 and sulphur .75 parts by weight, these ingredients being reduced to a cement and .21 lb. thereof dessolved in 1 gallon of gasoline containing .14 lb. of acetylene carbon black. A latex solution may be used consisting of 166.67 parts of 60 per cent. latex dispersing agent, 4.25, activator 2.5, accelerator 75, casein 10, ammonia .9, sulphur 2.5, acetylene carbon block 85 and water 20.33 parts by weight.
