Abstract
541,043. Lamp shades. LEW, R. April 4, 1940, No. 6121. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 20, 1941.] [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] A lamp shade for use in shops, factories &c. for automobiles or for domestic purposes comprises one or more tubular hoods or covers 2, 2a accommodating a lamp 3 and provided with zones of varying degrees of translucency between clear and opaque zones. Between the hood or cover and the lamp may be arranged a mask 18 to direct the light through one of the zones, or, as shown in Fig. 5, the mask 18 may be arranged outside of the hood or cover 2. The hood or hoods may be rotated on the support 7 which is provided with a detent 16 or like device to engage with the serrated edge of a flange 14. The hood may be of cylindrical or polygonal form in section. The translucency of the hoods may be varied by dyes or pigments or by etching the surfaces. Instead of employing a separate mask the surface of the lamp 3 may be provided with an opaque coating at 27.
