Abstract

540,681. Directive wireless systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and EARP, C. W. March 12, 1940, No. 4604. [Class 40 (v)] In direction finding equipment which may be of the kind described in Specification 490,940 or of the switched cardoid type in which signals are used from two or more separately tuned antennae, the amplifier following the tuned circuit in each individual current path is provided with negative feedback. In this way little damping is imposed on the input circuits and a good signal noise ratio is obtained and errors due to phase changes are minimized. The Figure shows loop aerials L 1 , L 2 at right angles to one another and a sense aerial V. The balanced modulators V 1 , V 2 and V 3 , V 4 give negative feedback to the tuned input circuits by windings W 1 , W 2 and are coupled in parallel to an amplifier V 5 the output from which is fed in parallel with the output of amplifier V 6 fed from the aerial V. Negative feedback is applied, by winding W 3 , to the tuned input circuit of amplifier V 6 . The output from circuit TC 4 is detected and applied to winding M of indicator I which is also fed with switching frequency from the oscillator circuits O 1 , O 2 as described in Specification 490,940.
