Abstract
540,053. Lamps forming a line of light. CAMPBELL, G., and BENJAMIN ELECTRIC Ltd. April 8, 1940, No. 6268. [Class 75 (iv)] In lighting-fittings having a number of linear light-sources in a common housing or reflector, loss of light, due to the shielding of one lamp by another, is reduced by arranging the lamps on or above the planes representing the angles at which the light is cut off by the edges of the reflector. The angle of cut off, above which no lamp is directly visible, may be one of 20 degrees below the horizontal, and is represented by the lines 3. In a fitting having three lamps, the two outer lamps 2 each lie on one of the lines, and the third is at their intersection, and, consequently, at a lower level. The roof of the reflector may be V-shaped in cross-section or of other form adapted to reflect light downwards between the lamps.
