Abstract

539,979. Wireless receiving sets. McDONALD, E. F. Feb. 27, 1940, Nos. 3627, 3628 and 3629 Convention dates, May 4, 1939, June 26, 1939 and Oct. 6, 1939. [Class 40 (v)] A receiver for operation within a shielding structure such as a train, car &c. has a loop aerial electrically connected to the set and provided with means for readily and removably attaching it to the surface of a window or other non-shielding wall area of the structure. As shown in Fig. 2 a loop aerial 7 is mounted between a plate 8 and a plate 11 which forms the back panel of receiver casing 1 and which is normally held in position by a groove 13 and spring catch not shown. The aerial is connected to the set by a lead 18 normally folded up in the casing. When used in, for example, a railway train, Fig. 1, the rear panel is removed, as by a hand hole 15 and the aerial is mounted on the window pane by vacuum cups 19. In a modification, Fig. 5, not shown, the aerial is extra to one permanently mounted in the cabinet and is connected to the set by a jack switch which disconnects the internal aerial as the external one is connected. Modifications are also described in which the vacuum cups are mounted on hinges, and arms to allow the aerial to be mounted at an angle to the window. In a further modification, the aerial is mounted between two sheets of transparent material so as not to obscure the window unnecessarily. 1
