Abstract

539,290 Directive wireless systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. June 28, 1940, No. 11002. Convention date, Feb. 23. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (v)] Night effect in a loop aerial used for directionfinding is eliminated by the use of a horizontal dipole aerial mounted above and in the same plane as the loop. The dipole turns with the loop, and its output after adjustment of phase if necessary, is superimposed on that of the loop so as to neutralize the voltage due to picking up of horizontally polarized waves inclined to the horizontal, such as those reflected from the ionosphere and from the earth. The Specification gives a mathematical analysis to show that this is possible.
