Abstract

539,198. Stabilizing frequency-modulated carrierwave television and like signals. PERCIVAL, W. S. Feb. 29, 1940, No. 3759. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] [Also in Group XXXV] Television and like signals having recurrent datum portions, which in the absence of fading would have a constant value, are transmitted by modulating the frequency of an oscillation in accordance with the amplitude of the signals, deriving from said modulated oscillation a correction signal the amplitude of which is determined by the displacement of the frequency of the component of said modulated oscillation representing the said datum portions from a predetermined value, and applying said correction signal to control the frequency of said oscillation in such a manner that variations of the frequency of said component are reduced. The correction may be obtained by the valve circuit 8, Fig. 6, and may be fed into the oscillator 1 which is modulated in frequency by the modulator 2, the modulated output being delivered through an amplitude-limiter 3 to a line 4 and the valve circuit 8. The line 4 may be connected to an aerial or a transmission line. Specifications 422,906 and 458,585 are referred to.
