Abstract

539,044. Packaging; lining boxes. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. March 26, 1940, No. 5444. Convention date, July 27, 1939. [Classes 18 and 94 (i)] Relates to a method of forming an air-tight and moisture-proof package for process cheese, edible fats, frozen foods, and the like. According to the invention, an open-ended bag is formed from a film of rubber hydrochloride and spread out to conform to the interior of a box and to project above the upper edge of the box, the bag is filled to the height of the upper edge of the box, and the open end of the bag is then sealed. The bag is preferably flat but may have pleated sides or a square bottom. The bag a is opened and blocked into a square-bottomed bag by any suitable means, such as two blocks 1, hinged at 2 to a base and tiltable to and from one another by a rod 3 operating a toggle joint 4. 4. The bag is placed over and smoothed down around the blocks, and a box is fitted over the bag which then serves as a lining. The blocks are then tilted towards one another to allow the lined box to be removed. Any other suitable means for lining the box with rubber hydrochloride film may be used. The lined box is filled by running in hot cheese, for example, and after filling, the upstanding edges of the lining are pressed down on to the cheese or other contents and sealed by heat and pressure.
