Abstract

538,373. Walls &c. OLSEN, A. C. Jan. 29, 1940, No. 1810. [Class 20 (iv)] Walls or partitions are formed of weatherboards secured by metal fasteners to metal studs, the inside of the wall being formed of slabs, also secured by metal fastenings. As shown in' Fig. 1, the studs 10 are formed of metal channels secured back to back and the weather-boards are provided near their lower edges with longitudinal slots 14<SP>1</SP> in which metal strips 14 are fitted, the ends 14<SP>2</SP> of which are notched to. fit a flange of the stud. Each strip rests on the upper edge of one board and supports another. The strips extend from one stud to the next, or they may shorten, in which case a part is pressed out and turned down to engage the face of the board, Fig. 4, shows an intermediate fastening in which an upward flange 18 and a turned-down part 18<SP>3</SP> are provided. The slabs 11 'are secured by clip members 20, Fig. 5, which embrace the studs and are provided with projecting ears 20<SP>1</SP> which engage mating slots cut in the face of the slab; the ears may be formed in the stud flanges. Fig. 8, 9 and 11 show means for securing slabs to a lattice stud and consisting of channel members 32, Fig. 11, which engage in slots 31<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 9 in the edges of the slabs, the members 32 having notches 32<SP>3</SP> which engage plates 30, Figs. 8 and 9. The plates 30, which have slotted edges, rest on the. cross members 10<SP>2</SP> of the girder and their upper edges enter the notches 32<SP>3</SP> in the members 32. The space between the slabs is filled by a channelled member 35. As shown in Figs..12 and 15, the 'slabs are engaged ,by members 41 which pass behind the stud and have notches 41<SP>1</SP> engaging the upper and lower edges of superimposed slabs, the ends 41<SP>2</SP> being turned in.. In a modified form of fastening for weather board, a metal plate has lugs at opposite corners whereby it can be placed on a stud to engage the flanges, the plate having an outwardly-turned part to engage the slot in the weather-board.
