Abstract

538,302. Sulphonamido compounds. BRITISH COLLOIDS, Ltd., JONES, J. I. M., and HAINES, R. T. M. June 5, 1939, No. 16472. [Class 2 (iii)] p-Nicotinylaminobenzenesulphonamide and its derivatives containing alkyl or aryl substituents in the sulphonamide or amino group are prepared by treating sulphanilamide or its corresponding alkyl or aryl derivatives with nicotinyl chloride. The products possess therapeutic properties. According to the example, nicotinic acid is treated in pyridine solution with thionyl chloride and sulphanilamide in pyridine slowly added ; the product is isolated by distilling off the pyridine under reduced pressure and pouring the residue into cold water.
