Abstract

538,105. Bitumen emulsions. WILLIAMS, H. G. March 4, 1940, No. 4038. [Class 1 (i)] In preparing bitumen emulsions of the oil in water type comprising in addition to the bitumen and water an adhesion-increasing compound of aluminium, tin. zinc, chromium, molybdenum or vanadium dissolved in the emulsion or one of its phases, and an alkali soap stabilizing agent with or without alkali, the amount of alkali, if employed, and/or of the stabilizing agent is so proportioned that the breakdown time of the emulsion when applied to stone chips does not exceed 5 minutes. The Specification describes a number of examples in which various types of adhesion-increasing compounds are employed, sodium aluminate and tin chloride being typical examples. Specification 487,053 and U.S.A. Specification 2,013,972 are referred to.
