Abstract

535,638. Armour. HUNT & TURNER, Ltd., and JAMIE, R. C. S. May 24, 1940, No. 9157. [Class 113 (ii)] For the purpose of deflecting projectiles from their paths, protective armour is comprised of two or more banks of parallel spaced flexible and tensioned members such as bars, ropes and wires 10 mounted in a frame 17. The wires may be provided with springs 12 and screw devices 15 for adjusting tension or the banks may be composed of coiled springs in rubber sheaths. The successive banks may be arranged in parallel layers as shown in Fig. 1 or may be inclined; the individual wires of one bank may also be arranged at an angle to those of the adjacent bank, as indicated in Fig. 2, in which modification the innermost bank is supported on spring buffers 49. In a further modification the wires may be collectively tightened by a screw and nut device. The wires &c. may be provided with rollers as described in Specification 535,317.
