Abstract
535,396. Wireless transmitting systems. LONGO, G. Oct. 11, 1939, No. 27677. Convention date, Oct. 11, 1938. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] A transmitter comprises aerials A1 ... A4, Fig. 2, arranged in a circle, diametrically opposite aerials A1, A3 and also A2, A4 are energized in phase opposition with the carrier frequency suppressed. The modulating currents for the pair A1, A3 are in quadrature with the modulating currents for the pair A2, A4. An unmodulated carrier in quadrature with the suppressed carrier is radiated from a control aerial AO or from the four aerials in parallel. This method of radiation causes the instantaneous value of the energy radiated to equal the average value. Virtually the modulation rotates about the central aerial. If the modulating current be a single frequency f, the radial plane of maximum amplitude of the emitted wave rotates with an angular velocity 2#f, and the transmitter may be used as a beacon. Three or more pairs of circularly placed aerials may be used. The network, Fig. 3, enables two modulating currents in quadrature to each other to be derived from a complex audio current fed to the transformer T, these quadrature currents appearing respectively between terminals B<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>11</SP> and earth. In both the left and right banks the magnitude of the inductances and capacities are such that and the ratio of L1 or C1 of the left bank to L2 or C2 of the right bank is Á¢. Three or more banks may be used in the network to furnish polyphase instead of quadrature currents.
