Abstract

533,361. Glass manufacture. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and STANWORTH, J. E. Aug. 10, 1939, No. 23122. [Class 56] Heat-resisting glass, suitable for the envelopes of high-pressure mercury discharge lamps, is made from a batch containing 20-28 per cent. of alumina, 4-5 per cent. of boric oxide and phosphoric oxide together, and 14-16 per cent. lime, baryta, and magnesia together, the whole or the greater part of the remainder consisting of silica. The proportion of phosphoric oxide is not more than 2 per cent. and of lime is not less than 5 per cent. and not greater than 12 per cent., the proportion of, either baryta or magnesia not being more than 8 per cent. A small percentage of arsenic oxide, antimony oxide, or other refining agent may replace a portion of the silica.
