Abstract

532,871. Dyeing textiles &c. SOC. OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY IN BASLE. June 28, 1939, Nos. 18813, 18814 and 18815. Convention dates, July 4, 1938, Nov. 30, 1938, June 5, 1939. [Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] The fastness of dyeings or prints is improved by an after-treatment with a solution of a comparatively highly condensed resinous aldehyde condensation product in a concentration of less than 5 per cent. of the treatment liquor. The condensation product is such that condensation has proceeded beyond the stage of unlimited solubility in water but not to hardening and it may advantageously be applied in acid or alkaline solution or in hot water or an organic solvent. The processes claimed in Specifications 506,050 and 515,847 are disclaimed. Specified materials coloured are fibres of cotton, linen, hemp and regenerated cellulose, artificial silk, including staple fibre, wool, silk, camelhair, cowhair, horsehair, hare fur, casein wool, animalized cellulosic fibres, paper, wood, leather, felt, feathers, and films of regenerated cellulose and specified dyeings and prints treated are those with substantive, acid and mordant dyestuffs and those obtained by diazotization and coupling on the materials. The condensation of the aldehyde may be with an aminotriazine, e.g. melamine, urea, thiourea, guanidine, dicyandiamide, biuret, phenol, etc. In examples, (1) a mixed fabric of wool and viscose staple fibre is dyed in a neutral Glauber salt bath containing the copper compound of the azo dyestuff, amino-leuco Patent blue - 1-phenyl-3-methyl- 5-pyrazolone (cf. Specification 104,743, [Class 2 (iii)]), and Direct green B, rinsed, drained padded with a dilute formic acid solution at room temperature containing 30 grams per litre of a formaldehyde (6 mols.) -melamine (1 mol.) condensation product having a watersolubility of 1:1, and suspended for 4 hours at 45-50‹C. to obtain a dyeing fast to water, washing, perspiration and rubbing; (2) a mixed yarn of wool and viscose staple fibre is dyed in a neutral Glauber salt bath containing the dyestuffs Carbide black E and Cloth fast black B, rinsed, treated with a dilute formic acid solution at room temperature containing 10 grams per litre of the condensation product of (1) centrifuged and dried for 1¢ hours at 90‹C. to obtain a dyeing fast to water and washing ; (3) a mixed wool-cotton fabric is dyed in a neutral Glauber salt bath containing Melantherine BH and Clotch fast blue B, centrifuged, impregnated with a dilute formic acid solution at room temperature containing 30 grams per litre of a formaldehyde (8 mols.)-urea (1 mol.)- melamine (1 mol.) condensation product having a water-solubility of 1:1, dried, and steamed for 5 minutes to obtain a dyeing fast to water, washing and perspiration ; (4) a mixed yarn of wool and viscose staple fibre is dyed in a neutral Glauber salt bath containg Chlorantine fast red 6BL and Clotch fast red B, rinsed, treated with a dilute formic acid solution at room temperature containing 30 grams per litre of a formaldehyde (3 mols.)-melamine (1 mol.) condensation product having a water-solubility of 1:3, centrifuged and dried at about 50‹C. to obtain a dyeing fast to water, washing and perspiration; (5) a viscose crepe fabric is dyed with Cotton yellow CH, rinsed, centrifuged or pressed, padded with a dilute formic acid solution at room temperature containing 10 grams per litre of the condensation sodium product of (1), dried, pointed in side-by-side patterns with a white formaldehydesulphoxylate discharge and with a similar discharge coloured with Ciba blue 2B, steamed and treated with a dilute formic acid solution at 70‹C. containing a Á-heptadecyl-benzimidazole sulphonic acid ester to obtain a print free from any bleeding of colour into the white discharge areas ; (6) cotton sateen is dyed with Melantherine BH, padded with a dilute formic acid solution at room temperature containing 30 grams per litre of a formaldehyde (3 mols.)-dicyandiamide (2 mols.) condensation product, dried and hardened for ¢minute at 130‹C. to obtain a dyeing fast to water, washing and perspiration ; (7) cotton sateen is dyed with Chlorantine fast blue GLL and, with or without drying, padded with a dilute formic acid solution at room temperature containing 35 grams per litre of a formaldehyde (2 mols.)-urea (1 mol.) condensation product, dried and hardened for 4 minutes at 125‹C. to obtain a dyeing fast to water, washing and perspiration ; (8) cotton sateen is dyed as in (6) or with Direct yellow G, padded with a dilute acetic acid or dilute caustic soda solution at room temperature containing 45 grams per litre of a formaldehyde (2 mols.)-melamine (1 mol.)-phenol (1 mol.) condensation product, treated, if a caustic soda solution has been used, with dilute formic acid, dried and hardened for ¢minute at 130‹C. to obtain a dyeing fast to washing ; (9) a woollen fabric is dyed with Neutral blue B, immersed in a dilute formic acid solution containing 35 grams per litre of the condensation product of (1), pressed, allowed to stand overnight in rolled up condition at room temperature, rinsed and dried to obtain a dyeing fast to water and to sea water. Specifications 429,209 and 482,345 also are referred to.
