532,821. Separating gaseous mixtures. ISTITUTO PER LO STUDIO DELLA GOMMA SINTETICA, and NATTA, G. Aug. 10, 1939, No. 23137. Convention date, Aug. 12, 1938. [Class 1 (i)] In the separation of gases or vapours by fractional absorption in a slightly volatile solvent, the gaseous mixture or a solution of it in the solvent is fed at an intermediate point 3 into an absorption column 1, to the top of which solvent is supplied. Solution withdrawn from the bottom of the column is treated in the degasifier 6, and a portion of the soluble gas evolved from it is fed back to the foot of the column by the pipe 8. The less soluble oomponent is withdrawn at the top 10 of the column. In a modification for the extraction and subsequent separation of two gases from a complex mixture, the two gases are extracted together from the mixture by solvent in a preliminary treatment, the solution is fed to a second column as above described, but only a part of the solution formed in the second column is degasified, the remainder being withdrawn and returned to the first column. The application to the separation of butadiene from butylene is referred to.
