Abstract

532,802. Tanks. McCULLOCK, M. L. July 10, 1939, No. 20094. [Class 69 (i)] A collapsable container or reservoir for liquid in which the surrounding wall is made from flexible material is provided with a plurality of bracing members spaced around the wall and extending into the container, these members uniting the upper parts of the wall with adjacent parts of the base to prevent or assist in preventing the wall from bulging out or swaying when the container is charged with liquid. The bracing members may comprise fabric sheets stretched along one edge of the wall and along another edge of the base and may extend across the container to form partitions which are continuous and divide the container into separate water-tight compartments or which have openings or gaps therein. Alternatively, the bracing members may comprise a tripod structure consisting of rigid members one or two of which are held in a pocket or pockets in the wall while the lower end or ends of the remaining member or members are held or secured to spaced positions on the base. In one form, Fig. 1, the converging wall 12 is secured to the base 11 by sticking, and also to a top 13, bracing members 21, 22 of canvas with openings 23 being secured to the wall at 24 and to the base at 25. The top 13 has an opening 14 along which is stitched one edge of a flap 16 provided with a free edge 17 to which are secured the ends of ropes or cords 18 adapted to be secured to cords 19. A bolster 20 filled with kapok is stitched to one side of the opening and serves as a valve to close the opening 14 when the container is filled with water and as a support for one or more hose pipes used in filling the container. The wall 12 of the container may be made in separate pieces stitched together and the joints covered by strips 29. Extending outwardly from a filling opening 31 is a long canvas tube 32 which is secured to a pocket 33 on the wall 12, and is provided with rings 35 secured to strips 34 of canvas and a rope 37 which is threaded through rings 38, 39 stitched to the top 13. The base 11 may be supported on galvanized tubes 46, 47, 48 which are held against the base by ropes 49 secured to flanges 50 on the wall 12 and threaded through the tubes. In another form, the bracing members consist of triangular pieces of canvas and in another form, the bracing members consist of two diagonal partitions. In a further form in which the bracing members consist of partitions which divide the elongated container into water-tight compartments, a series of pipes extends from the end compartment to each of the other compartments. Specification 378,488 is referred to.
