Abstract
532,716. Compound sheet material. SOC. OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY IN BASLE. July 28, 1939, No. 21970. Convention date, July 30, 1938. [Class 140] In attaching a Stiff sheet such as a metal sheet, an asbestos-cement sheet or a slate or an artificial resin plate to a stiff support such as plywood, asbestos-cement, wood, fibre or cork sheets, cardboard or linoleum the sheet is first covered with a porous adherent layer by attaching paper, cloth, thin veneer, asbestos paper or glass-fibre cloth by a glue requiring heat and pressure and the support is then attached by a cold-glueing process. As hot glues may be used synthetic resins hardened by heat such as phenol-aldehyde, urea aldehyde or melamine resins, casein or gluten glues hardened with formaldehyde, or thermoplastic binding-agents such as nitro-, acetyl- or benzyl-cellulose. A layer of gelatine, hide glue or casein may be first applied to the sheet. As cold glue may be used casein or bone glue. As hot glue, the resin described in Specification 480,340, [Group IV], may be used and as cold glue, the adhesive described in Example 1 (i) of Specification 480,316, [Group IV], in which potassium persulphate is replaced by formic acid may be used.
