Abstract
532,669. Metals, cleaning. CURRAN BROS., Ltd., and CURRAN, J. June 28, 1939, No. 18803. [Class 82 (ii)] Metal articles, e.g. plates, cleaned, e.g. picklewashed or degreased by subjecting-them to treatment with jets of liquid, e.g. pickling liquid, the jets being directed upon the upper edges of a pack of the articles situated in, or moving through, a vertical position or in a position sufficiently near the vertical to enable the articles to be separated by the jets. For treating the plates, packs of the latter are fed by a conveyer 14 into compartments formed by radial arms 4 secured to discs 2 mounted on a rotary shaft 1 and as the latter turns are brought under pipes 9, mounted, in a header 13 and having a row of nozzles, being fed with acid under pressure by means of a pump which sucks the acid from a sump 11. The treated plates are discharged from the compartment 16 on to a conveyer similar to the conveyer 14 which may consist of a number of endless ropes of rubber. Instead of two conveyers, one conveyer having a number of sections which pass between the rods and are carried by sheaves or sprockets situated at a convenient distance from the rotor may be used.
