Abstract
532,652. Honing and lapping cylinders. BURGESS, A. F. (Barnes Drill Co.). Sept. 19, 1939, No. 26142. [Class 60] A honing or lapping machine, e.g. as described in Specification 532,651 in which liquid coolant carries waste material into a settling tank 65 is provided with an endless chain scraper 68 to remove deposit from the bottom of the tank and discharge it into a removable receptacle. Cooling oil is delivered from a tank 52 by a pump 51 through a filter F and pipe 53 to the work 14 and waste oil flows over a tray 55 and through a notch 56 into the tank 65 whence the settled oil flows by an overflow 58 into the tank 52. The chain 68 may be tensioned by a screw 77, Fig. 4, and rotated by a ratchet 83 operated by a spring- returned piston 85. The cylinder 84 is connected to the hydraulic operating system in such a way that the piston is moved at the beginning of each cycle of operations or at each working stroke.
