531,190. Impulse transmitters. PHILCO RADIO & TELEVISION CORPORATION. June 29, 1939, No. 18963. Convention date, July 20, 1938. [Class 40 (iv)] The shaft of an impulse transmitter carries a switching member which closes a circuit when the shaft is moved off-normal and, on the return movement, closes the impulse transmitting circuit through a lost-motion connection. The transmitter is arranged particularly for the distant control of a wireless receiver as described in Specification 531,187 and is provided with means for controlling the duration of one impulse. As described, the impulse transmitter is arranged to key a high frequency generator as shown in Fig. 1, the cathode circuit being completed over wiper 8 and an off-normal arc and the anode circuit intermittently made over an arcuate set of contacts 7 and wiper 6. The mechanism is operated by dial 10 and spindle 5 mounted in a fixed frame 16, 18, a restoring spring 29 being wound up during the setting of the dial. The impulses are transmitted by the movement of wiper 6 over a set of contacts 22, 23 carried on a fixed insulated plate 4, the alternate contacts 22 (shaded) being commoned and the others dead. The wiper 6, Fig. 13, is carried by an insulating member 40 loose on the shaft 5 but coupled thereto after lost-motion by a three-armed conducting member 33, 34, 45 secured to shaft 5. One arm 33 of the member engages fixed stop 35 in the normal position and carries the wiper 8 making off-normal contact with arc 9 ; a second 44 carries with it, after lost-motion during the setting movement, the member 40 carrying the impulse transmitting wiper 6, and the third arm 45 moved away from the wiper carrier 40 on setting is re-engaged therewith after lostmotion on the return movement to make contact between the shaft 5 and a pin 41 on the wiper. The wiper carrier 40 also carries a finger 43 which is engaged by a pin 62 when the movable finger stop 13 is depressed so that one impulse, preferably the last, may be given a controlled duration. The governor consists of a fly 58 rotated on shaft 5 by gearing 57, 51 coupled by a helical spring one-way clutch 54 to gearing 48, 47 driven by the shaft.
