Abstract

517,420. Electric control systems. COOPER, A. H. June 17, 1938, No. 18066. [Class 40 (i)] In a push-button or other servo operated radio receiver covering several wave ranges and in which the same motor is used for operating the tuning and wave change mechanisms, the operation of the button for a station outside the range to which the receiver is tuned causes the motor to be coupled first to one. only of the mechanisms and after adjustment of that mechanism to the others. As shown, the depression of one of the buttons closes springs 14, 15 which complete circuits via the control drums 8, 11 for the motor 1 and the clutch magnets 22, 23, one of the latter, say 22, being arranged to operate first and open the circuit of the other. The motor then drives the drum 8 and the tuning condenser (not shown) to the position indicated by the button, whereupon clutch magnet 22 is released and clutch magnet 23 is operated and the motor, which continues to run, drives the drum 12 and the wavechange switch to the position indicated by the button. The motor and clutch magnet are then de-energized. The motor may also be energized by switches 25, 26 in series with a clutch magnet 24 for controlling volume level. In a modification Fig. 2 (not shown), in which there is no provision for volume control the clutches act by moving the motor shaft axially. In a further modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), the motor is normally geared to one drum and drives this drum when energized through a resistance. When energized direct however the armature in known manner moves axially against a spring to gear the motor to the other drum. In all cases a given push button can be associated with stations in different wave ranges with the help of plugs and sockets 19...21. The control drums can. be replaced by discs-and the wave-change switch by an adjustable coil turret. The push button &c. may have volume controlling contacts, and may be replaced by relay or switch contacts controlled, e.g., by a telephone dial. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 497,774.
