Abstract
531,101. Aerial warfare. MUIR, H. J. July 11, 1939, No. 20202. [Class 9 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] For launching an aerial mine, or a meteorological sounding apparatus supported by a balloon, the mine &c. is held in a cup-shaped container 15, provided with a handle 16, until the cable, which is wound around the outside of the container, is completely unwound and lifts the mine &c. out. The strikers 14 of the mine ,are arranged in a conical surface and normally rest upon the chamfered upper edge of the container. The cable is wound upon a reel 19 removable from the container so that other reels may be quickly affixed by screwing. Each reel has a groove 18 to accommodate the inner end of the cable, the outer end of which has a swivel 22 and hook for attachment to the balloon. The outer end is held by a frangible tie 23 and the coiled cable may be held in position by shellac until it is drawn off the reel, or removable pieces of adhesive tape may be used. Specification 485,306 is referred to.
