Abstract
530,908. Weighing apparatus. OTT, W. July 5, 1939, No. 19594. Convention date, July 27, 1938. [Class 143] [Also in Group I] Pre-determined quantities of immunizing powder or liquid are added to pre-determined quantities of seeds, automatically by means of a balance operated by the weight of the immunizing material. The material is fed from a hopper a through a slot e on to the pan of a balance f, counter-weighted at i, which rocks with a bearing block g about an axis h and on reaching the desired quantity tips down the balance, the material then being discharged into a conduit u where it mixes with the seeds v on their way to a mixing drum. Simultaneously with the tipping of the balance, the slot e is closed by a slide at the end of a double-armed beam q counter-weighted at r pivoted on an angled lever o which swings about an axis p and is moved to the closed position by a stop n on the bearing block g engaging the lever and rotating it counter-clockwise. The quantity of immunizing material can be varied according to the seeds by varying the turning movement of the beam f by means of a sliding stop k, a smaller quantity of the material being weighed out when the stop is in the position k2 than when it is in the position k1. This calibration can be read off a scale near the stop k. The beam f in its discharge position falls upon the cross-piece of a bail l which swings about the axis h and is limited in its downward movement by a stop m. The beam is re-set by an upward movement given to the bail l by a vertical rod s pivoted thereto, which rod is operated by the feed control of the seeds only after the pre-determined quantity of seeds has been weighed out. If powder is used in the hopper, a stirring grid b may be provided which is continuously oscillated through levers C1, C2, between the base of the hopper and a plate d which covers the slot e to minimize the static head of the material in the hopper.
