Abstract

530,835. Electric control systems. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. June 19, 1939, No. 17856. Convention date, June 18, 1938. [Class 40 (i)] In a motor-controlled tuning system for a wireless receiver, the pre - determined positions to which the tuning member may be driven are adjusted by manually tuning to a desired station and then adjusting a contact member, which determines stoppage of the motor, to a position of correspondence as indicated by a pilot lamp which is normally used as a dial light. The system shown comprises the known arrangement of a motor 18 (windings 10-12) driven under the control of push-button selecting- circuits 40-44 and a commutator 30, 31 until an insulating portion 33 registers with a selected contact 45-49. The motor when energized moves its armature upwardly to engage a star-wheel 20 of a gear train which drives a drum 8 on the condenser spindle and also an indicator 26. Manual tuning by knob 22 also operates on drum 8, the gear train being disconnected from the motor during this operation. The dial lamp 65 is normally directly supplied over secondary winding 66, key 39 being in the position shown during manual or automatic tuning. When it is desired to adjust the system for automatic tuning to a desired station, the receiver is manually tuned and key 39 then thrown to the right to connect lamp 65 in a circuit from ground at 51, over one of the motor supply leads 34, commutator segment 30 or 31, and push-button circuits, to secondary 66. The key 39 is maintained thrown, a selector push-button, say 42, is operated and the corresponding segment engaging contact 47 is adjusted to register with insulating portion 33 whereupon lamp 65 is extinguished. The lamp circuit includes motor windings 10, 11 or not, depending on whether segment 30, 31 is involved so that the difference in the brightness of lamp 65 serves as an indication as to the direction in which adjustment should be made.
