Abstract
530,319. Valve amplifying circuits; television. THORNTON, A. A. (Philco Radio & Television Corporation). June 8, 1939, No. 16804. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] A wide-band amplifier comprises a valve with two output electrodes to which load impedances are connected such that one provides a wideband output and the other a narrow-band overlapping the wide band, the arrangement being particularly adapted for the separation of synchronizing from picture signals in a television receiver. As shown the valve 2 is a pentode, with the picture signal output taken from its anode, and the synchronizing signals from its screengrid. The anode load comprises a resistance 3 and an inductance 4 which resonates with the anode capacity towards the upper limit of the required video frequency range. The screen-grid load comprises a larger resistance 5 and a larger inductance 6 which resonates with the screengrid capacity at a much lower frequency. The arrangement is such that the video frequency response in the anode circuit is reduced at low frequencies by the robbing action of the screen grid. The screen-grid voltage is supplied from the anode voltage source through a filter 7, 8 which eliminates low frequency ripple in the supply.
