Abstract

530,015. Percussive drills. INGERSOLLRAND CO. June 14, 1939, No. 17393. Convention date, July 26, 1938. [Class 124] In a percussive drill having a fluid pressure feed, the heads of the feed cylinders are attached to the heads of the motor casing and serve to clamp the casing parts firmly together. The motor casing 24 has heads 25, 26, provided with lugs cr flanges 30, 31 in which the two feed cylinders 33 are secured. Integral heads 35 on the cylinders screw into bosses 34 of flange 30 and sleeves 41 are clamped by bolts 45 against shoulders 40 on the cylinders and so secure them to the flange 31. The rear heads 46 of the cylinders are screwed thereon and are adapted to hold sleeves 47 which guide the piston rods 50. The latter are secured to a yoke 55 carrying a point 57 engaging the floor &c. and have pistons 51 at their upper ends. The fluid supply for the motor and the feed proceeds by pipe 60 to a throttle valve 62 operated by a handle 63 and thence to a distributing valve (not shown) for actuating the percussive element in the casing 24. Fluid also proceeds by a passage 67 in a rib 66 on the casing 24 to a control valve 69 and thence by passages 68 to the upper ends of the cylinders 33. The valve 69 may cut off the supply to the cylinders or may connect them to atmosphere at 72. A handle 58 attached to one of the cylinders may be used for steadying the machine or for rotating the machine about the axis of the drill 23 and centre point 57. In a modification, openended cylinders 33 are screwed into the flange 30 and the lower ends are secured in the flange by a sleeve screwing within the cylinders and engaging the flange through abutment sleeves.
