529,914. Production of hydromatic cycloparaffins. FIFE, J. G. (Naamlooze Vennootschap de Bataafsche Petroleum Maatschappij). June 1, 1939, No. 16185. [Class 2 (iii)] Hydroaromatic cycloparaffins are, prepared from non-hydroaromatic cycloparaffins by treatment at temperatures below 200‹C. with aluminium halides in the presence of hydrogen halides and in the presence of hydrogen: The aluminium halide may be produced in situ from aluminium and hydrogen halide, with simultaneous production of the requisite hydrogen. Suitable alkyl halides to be used as a source of hydrogen halide are propyl chloride and tertiary butyl chloride. The aluminium halides may be employed as such or used in conjunction with carrier substances such as kaolin, silica gel and active carbon, whilst they may also be used in the form of double or complex compounds such as Gustavson compounds, i.e. compounds of aluminium chloride and aromatic hydrocarbons. The reaction is usually carried out in the liquid phase, in which case high hydrogen pressure is necessary.
