Abstract

529,277. Measuring-tapes. KREUTZ, P. H. May 26, 1939, Nos. 15666 and 15667. Convention dates, May 27, 1938, and Feb. 7, 1939. [Class 106 (ii)] A flexible steel tape measure 3 having an arc shaped cross section is inserted through a slit 5 into an elongated casing 1 of bar shape with rectangular bounding surfaces, the space in which the tape is coiled corresponding to the external shape of the casing and projections being provided on the inside of the casing to facilitate the sliding of the tape therein. The projections may be transverse ribs in the casing and the latter may comprise two parts insertable one within the other. The outer end of the tape measure is provided with a stop 4 and near the other end of the tape is a second stop to prevent the tape being entirely withdrawn from the casing. Objects may be measured by clamping them between stop 4 and the edge 10 of the casing. The latter is graduated so that its length may be added to the effective length of the tape if required.
