Abstract

528,609. Electric hot plates. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CATTELL, G. S. May 10, 1939, No. 13982. [Class 39 (iii)] An electric hot plate of the kind comprising a top plate of cast iron has its rim and a narrow strip round the edge of the top surface provided with a layer of aluminium the inner surface of which is diffused into the iron of the plate and the outer surface of which is oxidized. The aluminium layer may be formed by calorizing or by spraying and heat-treatment, preferably with the addition of materials to control the oxidation of the outer surface of the layer. The edge portion of the top plate may be arranged at a lower level than the central portion, or may be formed with ribs the level of the tops of which is that of the central portion; or the treated edge may be of undulatory form.
