Abstract
528,521. Testing urine. LILLY & CO., E., and FORTUNE, W. B. April 29, 1939, No. 12905. [Class 1 (i)] Albumin in urine is detected by the addition of sodium hexametaphosphate and an acidulating agent, which are put up together in solid form. The resulting turbidity is compared with a chart. Preferred acidulating agents are glutamic acid hydrochloride and oxalic acid. A protective colloid such as dextrin may be added to make the turbidity more persistent. An example of a suitable mixture consists of 50 m.g. sodium hexametaphosphate, 50 m.g. glutamic acid hydrochloride, and 2 m.g. dextrin.. This is put up in a capsule and suffices for testing 4 c.c. of urine. Specification 528,520 is referred to.
