Abstract

528,478. Fourdrinier paper-making machines. SUBMARINE SIGNAL CO. May 8, 1939, No. 13730. Convention date, May 20, 1938. [Class 96] The shaken section of a Fourdrinier papermaking machine contains a pair of shake rails 1, 2 pivoted at one end 3, 4 and is vibrated in phase at resonant frequency together with compensating masses 8, 9 elastically coupled at 10, 11 to different points of the shake rail, the compensating masses being vibrated independently but in phase with each other and such that the sum of the momenta of them all equals the total momentum of the shaken section of the machine at the resonant frequency. The mass 8 is coupled at the "centre of percussion" of the machine and is just large enough to produce substantially zero deflection in the shake ran at the resonant frequency, the other mass being coupled, e.g. at the breast roll 5.
