Abstract

528,072. Locating leaks. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., BRAZIER, K. S., and HOLLINGSWORTH, D. T April 26, 1939, No. 12558. Drawings to Specification. [Class 99 (ii)] A method of locating a leak in a pipe or fluid-filled electric cable comprises the steps of isolating the faulty section at a point each side of the leak, filling the section from one end to or past the leak with a fluid A, filling the section from the other end to the leak with another fluid B easily distinguishable from fluid A, forcing fluid A into the section at the first end to expel the contents from the other end at a known rate, and correlating the proportion of fluid B in the expelled contents with the rate of expulsion to indicate the location of the leak with reference to the length of the section.
