Abstract

527,798. Vitamins. ROCHE PRODUCTS, Ltd. April 20, 1939, No. 11929. Convention date, May 11, 1938. [Class 2 (iii)] A chromatographic adsorbate of vitamin K is eluted with a non-alcoholic liquid solvent such as a hydrocarbon, halogenated hydrocarbon, ketone, ether, or ester, carbon disulphide or dioxane or by aqueous solutions of emulsifying and stabilizing agents such as salts of organic acids, especially fatty acids, or of bile acids, sulphonic acids or sulphonated higher alcohols. For the elution the same solvent may be used as was used to dissolve the initial material. In an example, dried lucerne is extracted with petroleum ether and the solution is treated in one or several columns of barium or calcium sulphate, the yellow-zones being eluted with petroleum ether and the process may be repeated with a final elution with acetone : the acetone solution is allowed to stand, at 0‹ C., a crystalline inactive material being separated, and the solution is diluted with acetone to 3 per cent and cooled with solid carbon dioxide to freeze out a less active portion ; on evaporation a yellow oil is left which is fractionally distilled at 10-<SP>3</SP> mm. pressure. The fraction distilling at 110-140‹ C. being collected separately ; the concentrate may be melted with desoxycholic acid and dissolved in sodium carbonate solution.
